The Problem with Current Road Construction

Current asphalt paving machines have remained largely unchanged since their invention in the early 1930s. They utilize a flat plate called a screed to measure and deliver asphalt material, which is then compressed to create a suitable driving surface. However, this flat screed design is ineffective for roads that require rehabilitation, as they contain bumps, dips, potholes, and ruts. This limitation requires extensive preparation work, such as milling down the surface flat, in order for the flat screeds to deliver a smooth, flat driving surface.

This preparation work not only increases the cost and carbon output of the project, but also requires more and longer lane closures, which can be very disruptive to both the public and private sectors. Additionally, these lane closures lead to more carbon output as drivers sit idle in traffic congestion caused by road construction projects.

At Advanced Paving Technologies, we aim to build a Better Road - Faster, Cheaper, and Cleaner! We are dedicated to introducing the world's first 3-D asphalt paving machine, which is designed to address the inefficiencies of current asphalt paving methods.

Our innovative 3-D asphalt paving machine is equipped with a dynamic screed that can incrementally adjust the amount of asphalt delivered across the width of the surface to be paved. This means that the machine can effectively pave over bumps, dips, potholes, and ruts without the need for extensive preparation work.
